Why should I integrate music therapy into my

work team?

We all know that there is something about music that attracts us that we cannot avoid. The attractiveness of music allows us to work on multi-disciplinary therapeutic goals in a highly enjoyable and motivating fashion.

Music helps to create a group identity, helps to create connections between different people. Thanks to music and its use as a medium in music therapy sessions, we can work in groups or families to improve relationships between members or create bonds of union, fostering social connection and mutual support.

Music helps to express all that we carry inside us (both in the unconscious and in the subconscious) without the need to speak, just by playing making it a useful communicative tool for those people who are non-verbal.

Music therapy is valuable to health centers multi-disciplinary teams due to its interdisciplinary nature. Goals and objectives can be coordinated with other allied health professions and overall care plans. By integrating music into treatment, health centers create a holistic, patient-centered environment that fosters healing and recovery.

What do we do?
We provide contractual music therapy services for companies and organizations who want to introduce or expand their music therapy services. This means hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc can expand or contract their music therapy offerings in a way that works for them and the needs of their service users.
Our work focuses on the specific design of projects in relation to the specific needs of your centre. Where appropriate, we carry out a preliminary study in a multidisciplinary way to define our area of work and complement the other professionals on your team.
All of our therapists are qualified to a Masters degree level, registered with the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT) and insured by the Psychologists Protection Society (PPS).

Why choose to collaborate with Munster Music Therapy?

Recognised experience and training in complementary areas

What makes Munster Music Therapy different is our unique experience and ability to integrate into a wide variety of multi-disciplinary teams. This is a result both of our founders teaching experience and training as a cognitive scientist in UCD. The unique insight provided by cognitive science, integrating dynamical systems and the multi-disciplinary approaches used to study brain and the mind (psychology, neurology, linguistics, etc) allow us to better understand the needs of different organizations, their missions, and their multi-disciplinary teams. This in turn allows us to better communicate what it is that we do and how we can best help our service users and the multi-disciplinary teams that work with them in a way that is easy to understand and specifically tailored to the culture of each stakeholder and organization.

We provide a clear pathway for organizations to seamlessly integrate music therapy into their care programmes and our methods of assessment and reporting clearly explain the potential reach and the limitations of music therapy in a way that contributes to the success of the organizations that we work with and our collective service users.

Integrate music therapy with a specific follow-up perfectly integrated with other therapies

We are working to become a reference in Europe with the aim that music therapy will continue to grow

We collaborate with our community and encourage the continuity of our therapeutic process at home

We also work closely with private individual clients and families, helping service users to flourish and educating parents, carers and other stakeholders, empowering them to continue music therapy at home with tools developed and refined in our clinical sessions.

Finally, we believe in the power of music therapy to unite people and communities and we are working hard at developing the field in all its potential areas. We have recently become official industrial partners with the University of Rioja in Spain, providing mutual educational and development opportunities to grow together. We have presented talks at conferences and hope to be able to fund our own research into developing new music therapy approaches, applications, and techniques in the future! We believe that a rising tide lifts all boats and that the brightest years in the wonderful field of music therapy are still ahead of us!

Customer reviews

Danny has an amazing ability to engage children with special needs (eg autism). Non-verbal children visibly respond and his music has both a calming and regulating effect. The children thoroughly look forward to their next session of Music Therapy with Danny.
